Baked Onions With Gruyere Cheese

Boar’s Head Gruyere Cheese is a gem on its own. Bake it with panko and parsley in soft onions and it becomes the pièce de résistance of any holiday spread.

  1. On a clean work surface, cut the top third of each onion off, leaving the root end uncut. Peel each onion. Using a melon baller, scoop the center out of each onion and chop the scooped centers of the onions. Set whole onions aside.
  2. Heat a medium sized sauté pan over medium-high heat. Add the butter and the chopped onions, salt, and pepper and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
  3. Add the whole onions to a stock pot and cover with water. Bring the onions to a boil and cook for 2-3 minutes. Onions should still be firm. Drain and let cool slightly.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350° F.
  5. Add the parsley, panko, and Gruyere Cheese to the sautéed onions and mix. Divide the mixture between the onions and stuff into each center. Place onto a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes.
  6. Carefully remove the onions from the oven and serve.
