Boar's Head® Woodland Creature Sandwiches

The perfect lunchtime activity to keep kids entertained — and full! Each creature is crafted using the same Boar's Head meats and cheese, and other easy-to-find ingredients. If you don't have an item, swap it with something similar! The only tools you'll need are a circle cookie cutter, heart cookie cutter and a pairing knife.Recipe by positivelysplendid.com.

Instructions


  1. 01For each creature, layer a slice of ham and a slice of cheese on top of one slice of bread.
  2. 02Add your favorite condiment to a second slice, and use it to top off the sandwich.
  3. 03Use a cookie cutter to cut your sandwich into a circle.
  4. 04Choose your creature, following the individual instructions below.
  5. 05Header: Owl Sandwich
  6. 06Make a circle sandwich using pumpernickel bread.
  7. 07Using a circle cutter, trim two half circles with the yellow cheese slices. Trim each of the half circles into a football shape by rounding off the straight edge.
  8. 08With the white cheese, cut two small circles for the eyes and one medium circle for the belly.
  9. 09Cut three small triangle shapes from the yellow cheddar for the eyes and beak.
  10. 10Finish by placing the yellow football-shaped pieces along either side to form wings, then add two raisin centers to the eyes.
  11. 11Header: Raccoon Sandwich
  12. 12Make a circle sandwich using white bread.
  13. 13Cut two triangles of pumpernickel bread, and tuck them along the top of the sandwich to form the ears.
  14. 14Cut a small, white cheese heart, and position it along the lower center edge of the circle sandwich.
  15. 15For the eyes, trim two teardrop pumpernickel pieces and two small football shapes from the white cheese. Place these pieces just above the white cheddar heart so their curved edges are just touching.
  16. 16Finish with two raisin eyes and a grape, trimmed in half, for the nose.
  17. 17Header: Fox Sandwich
  18. 18Make a circle sandwich using white bread.
  19. 19Cut a large yellow cheddar circle, and center it on top of the sandwich.
  20. 20Cut two yellow diamond shapes and two smaller, white diamond shapes. Layer the white diamond pieces on top of the yellow diamond pieces, and place along the top of the circle to form the ears.
  21. 21To shape the eyes, cut two small hearts from the white cheddar, trimming each heart in half to form a teardrop shape. Arrange these pieces along the lower edge of the circle so their points meet.
  22. 22Finish with two raisin eyes and a grape, trimmed in half, for the nose.
  23. 23Header: Hedgehog Sandwich
  24. 24Make a circle sandwich using pumpernickel bread.
  25. 25Cut a small heart shape from the white cheese and a small circle from the yellow cheese.
  26. 26Place the pieces as pictured on top of the sandwich.
  27. 27Add two raisin eyes. Trim a grape in half lengthwise, and place on the bottom point of the heart to form a nose.
  28. 28To form the hedgehog's quills, use a pairing knife to cut small triangles from the yellow cheese, tucking between the layers of the sandwich.
