Applewood Ham Croque Madame

Thick Cut Country Style Bread4oz
Boar’s Head® Simplicity® All Natural* Applewood Smoked Uncured Ham, sliced thin2oz
Boar's Head Vermont Cheddar Cheese, sliced thin2tbsp

Egg, pan-friedInstructions
- 01Header: Béchamel Sauce
- 02In a small sauce pan, over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter.
- 03Add the flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute.
- 04Slowly whisk in the milk until the sauce becomes smooth.
- 05Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened.
- 06Remove from heat and season with the nutmeg.
- 07Header: Croque Madam Sandwich
- 08Place one slice of bread on a clean work surface.
- 09Spread one side of the bread generously with the béchamel sauce (approximately 3 tablespoons), coated side up.
- 10Evenly layer the ham over the béchamel sauce.
- 11Top the ham with the Vermont Cheddar cheese.
- 12Top with the remaining slice of bread.
- 13In a sauté pan over medium-high heat, melt the 2 remaining tablespoons of butter.
- 14Once melted, place the sandwich and cook until well-browned on the bottom, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- 15Carefully flip the sandwich over and continue cooking until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- 16Remove from heat and top with a pan-fried egg.
- 17Serve warm.
