Applewood Ham Croque Madame

All Purpose Flour

Milk

Thick Cut Country Style Bread
4oz
Boar’s Head® Simplicity® All Natural* Applewood Smoked Uncured Ham, sliced thin
2oz
Boar's Head Vermont Cheddar Cheese, sliced thin
2tbsp
Butter
1
Egg, pan-fried

Instructions


  1. 01Header: Béchamel Sauce
  2. 02In a small sauce pan, over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter.
  3. 03Add the flour and whisk constantly for 1 minute.
  4. 04Slowly whisk in the milk until the sauce becomes smooth.
  5. 05Bring to a boil, and cook until thickened.
  6. 06Remove from heat and season with the nutmeg.
  7. 07Header: Croque Madam Sandwich
  8. 08Place one slice of bread on a clean work surface.
  9. 09Spread one side of the bread generously with the béchamel sauce (approximately 3 tablespoons), coated side up.
  10. 10Evenly layer the ham over the béchamel sauce.
  11. 11Top the ham with the Vermont Cheddar cheese.
  12. 12Top with the remaining slice of bread.
  13. 13In a sauté pan over medium-high heat, melt the 2 remaining tablespoons of butter.
  14. 14Once melted, place the sandwich and cook until well-browned on the bottom, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  15. 15Carefully flip the sandwich over and continue cooking until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  16. 16Remove from heat and top with a pan-fried egg.
  17. 17Serve warm.
